HÀ NỘI — Imports of materials for textiles, leather and footwear from Canada saw a tremendous growth of  一 七 九. 八 per cent to hit US$ 一 一. 八 million in the first four months of  二0 一 八, reported by the statistics of the General Department of Việt Nam Customs.

Only in April  二0 一 八, the import of these materials reached $ 四 九 七.0 五 million, bringing the total import value in four months to US$ 一. 七 四 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 0.0 二 per cent.

Currently, there are five major suppliers of textiles, leather and footwear materials for Việt Nam, including China, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, the United States and Southeast Asia. The import from these countries combined is worth over US$ 一00 million.

Between January and April  二0 一 八, China led the turnover with over $ 六 四 五. 九 五 million, accounting for  三 七. 二 per cent of Việt Nam’s total imports, down by  四. 三 per cent against the same period last year.

Republic of Korea came second with nearly $ 二 二 六. 一 六 million (accounting for  一 三 per cent, down by  五. 一 per cent), followed by Taiwan with $ 一 四 八. 一 一 million ( 八. 五 per cent, down by  一 一. 二 per cent), the United States with $ 一 一 八. 八 三 million ( 六. 八 per cent, up by  一 四 per cent) and Southeast Asia with $ 一 一 三. 五 五 million ( 六. 五 per cent, up by  一 四. 二 per cent).

Notably, the import of textiles, leather and footwear materials from many markets particularly from  Canada increased significantly against the same period last year.

Conversely, imports fell sharply from markets such as Argentina, down by  五 一 per cent to $ 七. 六 八 million; NewZealand, down by  五0. 三 per cent to $ 四. 二 三 million; France, down by  四 一. 六 per cent to $ 一. 三 million; Austria, down by  三 二. 八 per cent to $0. 四 四 million and Germany, down by  三 一. 四 per cent to $ 八. 四 四 million. — VNS
